El Progreso

El Progreso is a land of contrasts: plane lands dominated by a hot, dry almost desert like weather and huge humid template forests are found in the mountains are typical for this region. The amazing Sierra de Las Minas Mountain Chain is one of the most important tourist sites in the department of El Progreso.

Natural Spa and Poza Los Platanos

This strange but beautiful site combines with various elements of unknown interest. It is located in the municipium of Sanarate, exactly where the Platanos River crosses the old road to Guatemala City in the east side of the department. The water at this part of the river is hot running down softly from the mountain slopes. The water’s temperature changes in different locations, because hot waters mix with cold ones. This is the ideal place to swim, take a bath, light a campfire and enjoy a delicious roast or fish. You might as well just relax in the shadow of a tree.

IRTRA Aguas Calientes

Filled with gardens , swimming pools and water games. There is also a Zoo with restaurants and shops.

Parque Acuatico Guastatoya

Water park with slides, swiming pools and jacuzzi for kids and adults.

El Rancho

If you wish to take a break and eat or drink something, just stop at El Rancho, where natives offer a variety of food, beverages, fruits, vegetables, and other, before you continue your trip to the east side of the country.

Archaeological sites


Guaytan

The Guaytan archaeological site is located between San Agustin Acasaguastlan and the Magdalena village.

La Poza Verde

The archaeological site has a monolitic stone about 30 meters high, dated from the late postclassic period.
